BABY SWIM
When should my baby start swimming?
Their relationship with water can start earlier than you think.
At Super Star, babies can begin their swimming journey from 6 months old.
But starting early isn’t about rushing your baby to swim or achieve milestones before they are ready. It’s about giving them the opportunity to experience water in a happy, positive and nurturing environment – building familiarity, confidence and a love of water from the very beginning.
And because every baby is different, we don’t expect them all to respond or progress in exactly the same way.
We meet them where they are and grow from there.
Why start swimming with your baby?
Little experiences can build lifelong confidence.
For a baby, water is a whole new world of movement, sound, sensation and discovery.
Our Baby Swim classes use age-appropriate activities, play, songs and gentle interaction to help babies become increasingly comfortable and confident in the water.
As their experience grows, we begin building the foundations for their future swimming journey – always in a way that feels positive, encouraging and appropriate for them.
It’s not only about learning to swim.
Those early lessons are about helping your baby tp:
Feel happy and comfortable in water
Positive experiences help water become a familiar and enjoyable environment.
Develop early aquatic skills
We introduce skills gradually as your baby becomes ready for them.
Build confidence
Every small achievement helps create greater familiarity and confidence.
Discover a love of water
We want swimming to become something your child looks forward to – not something they fear.
Build foundations for what comes next
Baby Swim creates a natural pathway towards Learn to Swim as your child develops.
Submerging is never forced. Instead, we use gentle, consistent cues that encourage babies to go under water only when they are ready, helping them feel safe, confident and in control while developing a positive relationship with water.
And parents learn too.
You are part of their swimming journey.
Baby Swim isn’t simply a lesson you bring your baby to.
It’s an experience you share.
Our teachers help parents understand how their baby responds to water, how to support them positively and how to encourage confidence without placing pressure on them.
Because when you’re relaxed and confident around water, you can help your baby feel that way too.
What if my baby cries?
That’s okay. Really.
Some babies take to the pool immediately. Others need a little more time.
A new pool, new teacher, different sounds and unfamiliar sensations can be a lot for a little person to take in.
At Super Star, crying isn’t a sign that your baby has “failed” their swimming lesson and it doesn’t mean swimming isn’t for them.
Our teachers take time to build trust and familiarity, working with you and your baby at a pace that feels right.
There is no race. There is a journey.
What happens in a Baby Swim lesson?
Expect a warm, positive experience where learning happens through play, interaction, repetition and carefully considered activities.
